AI and Machine Learning Job Trends From January-June 2025
AI and Machine Learning job trends such as comp, skills and supply/demand are something many are curious about as the demand for AI tools, stocks and strategies has been rapidly increasing and shows no hint of slowing down. Employers are now contributing layoffs to efficiencies gained by AI software development adoption.
As we move further into 2025, the job market for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) professionals continues to evolve rapidly. Companies are increasingly recognizing the transformative potential of this technology, leading to heightened demand for skilled workers in this field. Here are some key trends (from our analysis of job postings) defining the landscape of artificial intelligence and machine learning engineer and scientist jobs across the last six months (January-June 2025). All time periods are January-June 2025, unless otherwise specified. This is an update of our first report, which included data from August 2024-January 2025.
Summary of Key Insights:
Job Postings
AI and ML job postings at 1,400 in June 2025 increased 89% compared to January 2025 and 150% compared to June 2024. There were a little over 5,000 total postings between January and June across all job types – full time, part time, contract, etc. June and April respectively saw the largest amount of postings.

Postings By Title
We can see postings by title by month in the table below. The title most advertised by far is Machine Learning Engineer followed by Artificial Intelligence Specialist.

Postings By Metro Area
Postings by metro area by month are shown in the table below. Silicon Valley area, Seattle, New York, San Francisco and Boston are the top five metro areas with the most postings. (A blank row means we could not identify a market for these postings.)

Postings By Company
In the table below we can see postings by company by month for those companies with a minimum of 20 postings. Apple, Innodata Corp., Amazon, TikTok and JPMorganChase top the list. (A blank row means we could not identify an employer for these postings.)

Compensation
We segment comp market analysis into three groups – minimum, middle and maximum and display the average of each group over the time period. Then we calculate the difference between the maximum and minimum groups for the range metric so you can see how wide or narrow of a range is being advertised. A lower range % gives job seekers a more true picture of the comp offering for the advertised position.
For full-time jobs in AI and ML, the average mid comp is $174,642, min comp is $135,900 and max comp is $213,400. The range between min and max comp is 44.4%, which means there is a heathy gap between the bottom and top of the advertised comp ranges. 86.3% of posted job ads included compensation. Comp was pretty flat the first five months of the year and then dropped significantly in June.

If we look at this same time frame last year – January-June 2024, there is not much difference in mid comp from year to year. Min comp was 2.3% lower, and max comp was 1.9% higher in 2025.

Below you can see the differences in comp between titles – AI titles are first, followed by ML titles. The highest paid titles in the mid comp segment include: Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer, Director of Machine Learning and Machine Learning Tech Lead. Overall, titles with Machine Learning earn higher comp than titles with Artificial Intelligence. The average difference was $12,342.

Fill Days
Average fill days across six months is 40.3, and June saw the shortest amount of time at 25 days, which was a 35.3% decline from May.

Remote Work Status
Software related jobs still remain one of the professions that can work remotely and this trend continues in 2025. This will help fill roles that have specialized skills, such as with AI and ML jobs. Below we see total remote postings over the last six months. Some type of remote work arrangement was offered in 12% of job postings. June saw an uptick in remote jobs.

Supply/Demand
The Technology, Information and Media sector is where most of the AI/ML jobs reside. The arrow (number of job seekers) is superimposed on the black bar (net positions) to indicate a shortage (red arrow) or surplus (green arrow). The only industry sector with a slight oversupply is Education.
Supply/Demand By Industry Sector

Supply/Demand By Location
In the map below, we see the locations with shortages (in red) compared to the surplus (in green) of AI and ML workers.

New Resumes
In the graph below we see the number of new resumes with AI/ML job titles that have been added or updated by month. A new or updated resume is an indicator of a job seeker looking for a new position. In June there were 419 new/updated resumes, which is down 22% from the January high point of 539.

AI and Machine Learning Job Trends- Increased Demand for Specialized Skills
The ML landscape is diversifying, with companies seeking professionals who possess specialized skills in areas such as natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, and reinforcement learning. As industries leverage these advanced techniques, ML practitioners with expertise in specific domains are particularly sought after.
Understanding how to collect, clean, and manage data is becoming crucial. As a result, roles that intersect machine learning and data engineering are gaining popularity. Professionals who can bridge the gap between data science and engineering will be at an advantage, allowing organizations to process data more effectively for model training.
Top desired skills for artificial intelligence and machine learning engineers and scientists analyzed across job postings from January through June 2025 are included in the graph below.
The top five advertised desired skills for jobs include: Machine Learning, AI, Python, PyTorch, and TensorFlow. Communication skills were also important.
